Denmark & Sweden: South Scandinavia expected to harvest the second-best crop in the EU this year
After France, South Scandinavia will harvest the best crops of the EU this year, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their latest report earlier this month.
Around 80% of spring barley had been combined as at the beginning of September, there are no reports of damages, proteins are in fine range of 10 to 11%.
According to the analysts, the average export forecast is 1 mln for Denmark and 200,000 tonnes for Sweden. As always in Denmark, the malting industry and the local pig farmers compete for the local barley supplies. If premiums for malting above feed barley are attractive enough, the final export surplus of malting barley may even surpass 1 mln tonnes. So far around 500,000 tonnes have been sold into export, it is reported.
